Aata haere was banded in Arthur's Pass township in March 2026 as a fledgling. When the Ngāi tahu group Tu Puno visited the Arthur's Pass Outdoor Education Centre (APOEC), they shared with locals that they refer to Arthur's Pass as 'Aata haere' - a place that is in contrast to the city and whose essence is about going slowly and deliberately, a place of careful contemplation and thought. It means also to encourage a gentle approach to nature.
