Alder was banded in Forks near to Okarito on the west coast on 23rd March 2019. The alder (Alnus) tree is a member of the birch family, a deciduous tree native to Europe and North America. It thrives in damp conditions such as wetland forests and has been associated with mysteries and fairy tales in different cultures throughout the ages.
