UPDATE 7th January 2025: Avis was found dead near Greyneys Corner Bridge, Arthur's Pass. He was found dead and flattened on the road, likely hit hard and killed by a vehicle. Avis was a sub-adult when he was first banded in Arthur's Pass National Park in January 2022. He was seen flying around with Vogel, another kea in the area! Avis was spotted in mid February 2022 not long after he was banded by Julie & Jo (Avis' Sponsor) near Lake Mavis in AP NP. They subsequently decided to sponsor him. They spotted Avis with a couple of fledglings. Julie & Jo have been on lots of missions and have a blog to follow - if you click on their sponsor names below you can read all about where they've been. Alternatively please copy and paste the blog link into your browser. https://www.ribbonwood.net.nz/blog Avis' photo is supplied by Julie. 7/1/25 - update that Avis was likely run over to SH73.
