Avoca was banded as an adult at Cass Saddle, near the Craigieburn Ranges, in July 2023. He is a giant resplendent, handsome male and was seen with Harper, McLeod and Cass - all named after local catchments. Avoca and Harper both have GPS transmitters on and collect location data every hour so we can learn more about the movements and ecology of adult male kea, e.g. how far they travel both when they are breeding and feeding female kea and their eggs/chicks on the nest as well as during non-breeding time.
