This adult male kea was caught and banded near the sea in the Tarakohe area of Golden Bay during July 2020. He was named by Rod Alexander from Kūmānu Environmental (Nelmac) who sponsor and support the Kea Conservation Trust. The name Boy Wonder was chosen in memory of Robin Stewart, Rod's late Poppa (this was his nickname). He was an avid lover of all birds, gardening, Aotearoa's flora and fauna, and his pets. He instilled this fascination and admiration of nature through Rod's family and Rod says "it's a real honour to be able to name this adult male kea in his nickname". Rest in Peace Robin, Boy Wonder.
