Brightbill was first seen hanging around with a group of other kea in Okarito. He is much beloved by the community of people which reside in Okarito, and was even named by two of the local kids. Like many kea, a blood sample to check for lead poisoning was taken and unfortunately for Brightbill, his numbers came back high. If you spot Brightbill, be sure to let the Kea Sightings Database know so we can check in on him and his health. Some kea require hospital visits to ensure they stay healthy, and fortunately for them the South Island Wildlife Hospital in Christchurch does an amazing job at taking care of our taonga.
