Chardonnay was caught at Chancellor Hut above Fox Glacier along with 34 other kea. Chardonnay is a green-skinned grape variety used in the production of white wine. The variety originated in the Burgundy wine region of eastern France, but is now grown wherever wine is produced. Chardonnay is regaining popularity as a new generation of Kiwi winemakers embrace the wide range of stylistic possibilities, from the rich tropical flavours of warm temperate regions to the leaner, lighter characteristics of grapes from cooler South Island regions.
