Crumpet was caught at Castle rocks on a beautiful morning over looking the Franz Josef glacier with what we assume to be his parents, "Amazing Mike" and "Doris". The first bird of the morning, Crumpet was particularly interested in our setup. Once caught, Iain raced in to hold him but fell into a small hole as he got hold of the bird. They both went down, with Iain prioritising the bird over himself. Crumpet took it all in his stride. All kea are bitey but Crumpet and his mum "Doris" were both very grabby birds during the banding and health checks. Grabbing everything and anything they could with their feet! Of course Crumpet got his name because it was breakfast time...
