Euryale was caught at Chancellor Hut above Fox Glacier along with 34 other kea. She is named for her snake-like head movements - Euryale was one of the three gorgon sisters in Greek mythology whose hair was made of snakes. Euryale is noted for her bellowing cries, particularly in the tale of Medusa's death at Perseus' hands, in which her anguished howls could make stone crumble to sand. This could explain the multitude of rock falls that occurred the night before Euryale and the other kea were caught and banded up at Chancellor. Re-captured 16/10/2024.
