Jade was banded as a fledgling in Arthur's Pass township in March 2018 by Martina and Mark. Martina has worked for two years on the intelligence of captive kea at Willowbank Wildlife Reserve. Together with the New Caledonian crow, kea are thought to be one of the most intelligent birds in the world. Chisnallwood Intermediate School sponsored and named Jade after a visit and talk to the school from the Kea Sighting Project team. The school do winter ski trips where they frequently see kea. Hopefully they will be able to report sightings of Jade when they next visit Arthur's Pass.
