This juvenile male was banded in February 2020 as part of a large flock that were making regular White Horse Hill Campground raids, throughout the 2019/20 summer, often joined by his mates Scotty, Jussy, Nazomi, Peaka and a squadron of new fledglings. He was named after La Perouse, a distinct majestic 3000m peak on the main divide of Tiritiri-o-te-moana (the Southern Alps) and a particular favourite of the kea banding team. La Perouse was a french naval officer and explorer, whose expedition vanished near the Tahitian islands in the 18th century.
