Ngaro Huruhuru was banded as a juvenile at the start of February 2023 in Arthur's Pass township. She was with a massive group of other young unbanded kea. Ngaro Huruhuru is named after the 2023 winner of the New Zealand Bug of the Year. NZ has 28 native bee species! They are quite small and each female has her own nest, where she lives a solitary life, looking after her own brood. They are at risk due to climate change and the change of land use by us!
