Pekapeka was banded at Liverpool Hut in February 2022 as a sub adult. He also wears a transmitter as part of an ongoing kea study. Pekapeka is the māori name of the long tailed bat, endemic to Aotearoa, that in 2021 robbed the kea of the Forest and Bird "Bird of the Year" title! Pekapeka is sponsored as part of the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund Matukituki Kea Project
