Rita A was banded in early October 2021 as juvenile. She also has a transmitter attached as she is part of a current kea study group. At the request of David Wisternoff, Rita A has been named after Rita Alekseevna who was the Russian sister-in-law of David. She tragically died in 2018 aged 55. She was a wonderful lady and her loss was, and still is, keenly felt by everyone who knew her. David thought this would be a fitting and wonderful memorial to her. Rita is the Anglicised version of the Russian spelling "Рита". David has been living in Arthur's Pass in 2021 and has been regularly contributing sightings and photos to our database of information about kea so he has been an enormous help to our small team.
