Wattie was banded as a fledgling on the slopes of Avalanche Peak, Arthur's Pass in February 2020. Wattie is named after Chief Pilot and CEO of Wyndon Aviation – Mark Watson. Wyndon Aviation specialises in technical flying for research and survey work and has approved radio tracking systems in their Notar helicopter. Wyndon Aviation helped the kea team recover kea radio transmitters in Arthur's Pass that had fallen in technically challenging terrain saving days of walking. Ever the professional, Marks tracking skills were right on the spot! Like his namesake this kea will have to be quick, adaptable and a natural flyer in the mountains!
