Behaviour
Three birds, one banded. I think all male based on beak length. All had the darker adult beak. Kea were flying overhead and perched on a rocky outcrop. After a while they came down onto the valley floor to feed. They were shifting rocks aside and pulling up moss to get to the grubs underneath. They grabbed the grub in their beaks and then used one talon to hold it steady while they ate it. I also observed the banded bird eating edelweiss flowers and orange berries (some sort of coprosma I think).
