Tamsin is named after the leading lady of kea conservation - the hard-working, dedicated passionate chair of the Kea Conservation Trust, Tamsin Orr-Walker. Tamsin the young male kea was found wandering around Arthur's Pass village in December 2019 looking quite sick and vomiting. He was captured by the kea sightings team and taken into Pauline and the wonderful crew at the South Island Wildlife Hospital to be examined and treated. He has very high lead levels and given chelation treatment to eliminate lead from his system. This should help him lead a healthy life back in the wild after release, so long as he doesn't get into the sweet-tasting lead head nails on hut roofs again!
